First of all, it has been brought to my attention that my post with my initial job impressions may have come off as offensive to some. So, just to clarify, I did not intend to imply that anybody had done a poor job in the past. I even noted that many things had been done well at the end of the post, but the point was primarily to show areas where I felt there could be room for improvement. Anyway, my apologies to those who may have felt attacked or insulted.
In other news, I've installed the new 2.0 firmware on my iPhone, and so far it's not that impressive. There are some nice features, such as better calendar management, the scientific calculator, and photo stuff, and the app store is a welcome addition. I'm particularly fond of Remote and Shazam. However, as others have noted, the typing seems more sluggish than before. I often get several characters ahead, and without the immediate visual feedback, it can slow the process down. It also seems to miss more characters than before. Safari also seems to crash on me more regularly. My final issue is that it no longer works with my car interface that I installed less than a month ago. While it was not designed specifically for the iPhone, it gave no trouble and behaved as you would expect an iPod accessory to with 1.1.4. I'm torn between whether or not I want to downgrade or not. On one hand I lose apps, but on the other I get a quicker phone and can listen in my car.
Finally, if you're around on the 24th, Dr. South and I are playing the trumpet parts on a song the community chorus is singing. I'm not sure what time the concert is, so you'll have to check SWOSU's site.
