So, I was supposed to get an iPhone as a surprise on my birthday which is on December 1. Anyway, Mom has bluetooth in her car and was on the phone with Dad. He didn't know I was with her and started talking about it while he was at the store shopping, so I found out and got my phone early! This was all great until I went to activate the thing.
I tried transferring my old number, but because it was on an old number, it didn't go through. Once I got e-mails saying my order had been canceled, I decided to just try and setup a new account with a new number. Keep in mind that the first attempt unregistered the SIM card in my old phone. When I noticed the second attempt taking a little longer than I thought it should, I called AT&T technical support.
The lady helping me at AT&T told me the iPhone was still showing up on the business account, so she tried to go ahead and add the data plan on my old number. That wouldn't go through, so we decided I should just get a new account (which I'd tried).
Because the iPhone's SIM card was still showing up on my old number, she was unable to get my old SIM card to activate in my old phone. So, she had to activate the new SIM card with the old number, and my old SIM card will not work in the iPhone. What did that mean? I have to get a new SIM card for my brand new iPhone.
The next day I go to the local AT&T store to get my new SIM card. I told them what had happened and that AT&T had put a note on my account to waive the fee. What tech support didn't tell me is that you have to go to a company-owned store for the fee-waiver to be effective. The closest such stores are in Oklahoma City and Lawton.
Luckily I was able to get ahold of Karl, who lives less that two miles from one, and he picked up a new SIM card for me. Whenever he gets back from the Thanksgiving break, I should have a new number for all of you for my new, shiny iPhone.
Also, thanks to Karl for saving me a trip to OKC. With my senior recital coming up and a term paper due next week, I was really glad to have that time available for not driving.
