Purdue supercomputer unboxed and built by lunchtime

This is pretty cool. Check out the youtube video linked near the end of the article.

Anyway, that's where I worked for a little while when I was at Purdue. Actually, I was there the summer after my first semester at SWOSU as well. If you want to see more about it, go to RCAC's web site.

New Job First Impressions

Well, I've had a week and two days with the new job. I'm not getting full-time hours yet because I'm still taking a class, but I have been spending quite a bit of time in Elk City lately. For your enjoyment, I give you my initial impressions.

New Job

Well, I have a new job starting the first of June. It will be for Elk City Public Schools, and it's not related to music. My official job title is "Technology Technician," and I'll be taking care of the district's technology: computers, networks, etc. It comes with the same benefits and retirement plan as a teacher, but the only drawback is that it is a year-round job. However, they will provide me with an office, a car to drive between campuses, and a cell phone to use for business.

Grandview Catches Fire

Last night Elk City's Grandview 5th and 6th Grade Center caught fire. The building is still standing and stuff; the damage was pretty much contained to one room, even though you could smell the smoke throughout the entire building. One of the classes had an incubator over some chicken eggs, and it fell into the box. Today they had torn out the ceiling tiles, carpet, and much of the cabinetry when I saw the room. The had giant blowers with air filters to help circulate some fresh air through the building. Luckily this happened when no students were around, so everybody was safe.

Student Teaching

Well, for those of you who don't know, I've been student teaching the past five weeks in Elk City. I would say overall it's going pretty well. There are a few things I have to to work on, but at the same time there are some other things I think I am doing well.

iPhone! :) iPhone... :(

So, I was supposed to get an iPhone as a surprise on my birthday which is on December 1. Anyway, Mom has bluetooth in her car and was on the phone with Dad. He didn't know I was with her and started talking about it while he was at the store shopping, so I found out and got my phone early! This was all great until I went to activate the thing.

Free MacBook Pro

So, I had a PowerBook G4 that I purchased in the summer 2005. It was a nice machine that served me well, but it started intermittently going to sleep. So I called up Apple tech support, and after they finally decided that it was probably a hardware problem, they had me ship it off for repair. On the 23rd of October I got an e-mail saying they were waiting for the part. OK. On November 4th I still hadn't heard anything different, so I called them.

Photos of Joaquin Cruz Flores

I have put up a few pictures of Joaquin. You can either click "Albums" above, or you can get directly to his album here.

I'm an Uncle

My sister had her baby today. Joaquin Cruz Flores was born sometime around 12:30, is 21 inches in length, and weighs 8 pounds. He seems pretty healthy so far. I would have pictures up already, but we didn't have a cable to connect the camera to the laptop. Anyway, I'll put pictures online soon.

New Life@SWOSU Theme

We recently launched a new theme at Life@SWOSU. Check it out and let us know what you think. This is the first theme our new graphics guy has created, and so far those of us working there like it. Anyway, back to working on new features. We should have a webcam active pretty soon.
